DOWN WITH ILIESCU!

english version by Axel H. Lenn

In December 1989 Romania experienced an anticommunist revolution with hundreds of people shot dead. Those responsible for the crimes have not been punished.

In March 1990 Romania experienced a violent interethnic confrontation at Tîrgu Mureş that political authorities enjoyed placidly, as it was yet another diversion useful for reinforcing authoritarianism. Those responsible for the conflict have not been punished.

Romania experienced a deliberate action of terrorizing civil society, in June 13-15 1990, when miners stormed in Bucharest and, with many officials supporting and coordinating them, thrashed civilians close to death. Those responsible for the set-up have not been punished.

Hundreds of thousand left Romania these past years, in search of a more peaceful, more prosperous and more understanding climate. Those who chased Romanians out of their country have not been punished.

What other crimes could former president Iliescu have performed against Romania and did not? What is the upper limit in political delinquency Romanian mentality can tolerate?

For all these and for many others, new touches should be added to the political slogan most popular throughout the last 15 years: “Down with Iliescu! In the dungeon with him!”.
